Customisation Guide - Chewy Straight Cable

Hello Everyone! This is a step by step guide on how to customise your new Chewy Straight Cable. Prior to reading this, please read my components guide to understand which component I'm talking about: https://trulychewyie.com/pages/understanding-components

1. Customising your Cable

Choosing:

  • Primary Sleeving
  • Secondary Sleeving
  • Triple Sleeve - Shimmer

This guide should give you a pretty good idea of what your cable colour will look like. If you're unsure, or confused, please feel free to message me on Instagram or discord and I can do up some samples for you!

1.1 Primary Sleeving
Your primary colour will form the base of your cable's final colour. Choose a sleeving that is closest to your desired final colour would be the safest bet.

1.2 Secondary Sleeving
Secondary sleeving is the techflex that will go over your chosen  paracord or MDPC-X sleeving. This will have 2 different effects on your cable colour. For more neutral coloured techflex:

  • Black
  • Carbon
  • White
  • Clear

It will make the primary sleeving darker or lighter depending on which techflex you choose. For example, if you use black techflex over a hot pink paracord, your cable will become a dark pink. If you use white techflex over a hot pink paracord, your cable will become a more pastel pink.

For the bolder techflex colours:

  • Grey
  • Purple
  • Blue
  • Light Blue
  • Orange
  • Red
  • Pink
  • Neon Green
  • Forest Green
  • Yellow
  • Beige

It will become the more dominant colour of your cable. For example, if you use yellow techflex over a blue MDPC X primary sleeve, your cable will look yellow rather than blue. However, there will be blue undertones under different lighting and different angles.

1.3 Triple Sleeve - Shimmer
If you're looking to spice up your cable and have a lot of colours and RGB flying around your set up, shimmer will be the perfect addition to your cable. Just like the name, Shimmer will give your cable an opalescent undertone which changes colour in the light. Be sure to use techflex over this option to protect the Shimmer. I would also recommend choosing a more neutral coloured techflex to allow the Shimmer and primary sleeving colour to shine through.

2. Cable Flexibility
The materials you choose to use will influence how flexible your cable is. The configuration that is least

  • MDPC X + Shimmer + Techflex (triple sleeve)
  • Paracord + Shimmer + Techflex (triple sleeve)
  • MDPC X + Techflex
  • Paracord + Techflex
  • MDPC X (Single Sleeve)
